Therapeutic Hypothermia
Reducing reperfusion tissue injury caused during heart attack and stroke is our long term objective. With 20% of first time heart attack victims dying one year after their first attack and stroke being the leading cause of serious disability – there is a clear need for novel heart and brain tissue salvage technologies.
Our CoolGuide technology challenges existing paradigms of systemic cooling and long duration cooling. FocalCool devices provide localized cooling for short durations: on the order of minutes, not hours. We believe therapeutic hypothermia tools likely do not need to be “long”, but they do need to be carefully “timed” relative to blood flow events and at the correct “depth” relative to normal body temperatures.
Cancer and Tissue Repair
Coupled with existing products like endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), CoolGuide technology can deliver temperature sensitive polymers deep inside the body. These polymers can perform a number of tasks from killing cancer cells to providing a substrate for healing and tissue regeneration.
